One year from today is a feasible amount of time to get H.R. 676 passed into law.
All we need is
1) believers in the vision of flooding at least 435 offices with envelopes each month and
2) doers regarding telling Americans what single-payer is, what the benefits are, and getting Americans to quickly ramp up the degree of participants.
What is Required:
Knowledge in the minds of Americans
and
Numbers of Participants
A Million Citizens: More Power Than Lobbyists

All we need is one
We do not want what the U.S. Congress is preparing for us. See "U.S. Congress Proposals", below.
It looks like all we need is one Democrat in the U.S. Senate to commit to killing health care reform in 2009. Two or three would be even better, since votes can change at the last second. If you have a Democratic Senator and want to help, then submit the following Letter-to-the-Editor to your local newspaper and take the action yourself of sending the recommended letter to that Democratic Senator(s).
-------- Insert the name of your Democratic U.S. Senator(s), below, and send the letter to the editor to your newspaper(s)
----------- the letter follows -------------
The U.S. Congress is developing unacceptable legislation for health care reform that will cause taxes and health insurance premiums to increase, while leaving over 17 million Americans without insurance.
Please send a memo to Senator ________, U.S. Senate; Washington, D.C. 20510.
.... or ... (if both your Senators are Democrat)
Please send a memo to Senator ________, U.S. Senate; Washington, D.C. 20510 and to Senator _______ at the same address.
Write a note that you want them to vote against any health care reform legislation in 2009. Grab a piece of paper and write that now and get it into the mail.
The expected vote is very close. One Senator could stop the legislation.
By the way, the U.S. Mail is fine going from you to any member of Congress at their Washington, D.C. office. It's a myth from an experience(s) in 2001-2002 that it's a problem.
What the U.S. Congress is developing will hurt the entire middle-class, especially the lower middle-class. Overall, Americans and America will be hurt.
"Maximum Premium" numbers that result from Congress' proposed legislation represent huge subsidies that the government will pay to cover the cost of the expected sky-rocketing premiums. Those subsidies alone will cost us dearly.
Please take time to send the suggested note.
---------------------------------------------
U.S. Congress Proposals: A Summary
1. Maintain, expand & add entitlement programs instead of replacing all with one public agency.
2. Create regulations, requiring more regulators, more cost.
3. Mandate, force, dictate Americans to purchase insurance.
4. Expand the tax code: huge tax fine if insurance is not purchased; face jail time if fine is not paid.
5. Force people onto an expanded Medicaid program.
6. Cause higher-than-ever health insurance premiums due to regulations put on health insurance companies.
7. Provide huge subsidies to health insurance companies to help the middle-class pay the huge premiums.
8. Still have millions with no health insurance.

Does 9-9-09 relate to success or failure
Does 9-9-09 Relate to Success or Failure; You Will Decide
ABOUT 9-9-09
Success by 9-9-09 did not occur. --- With the excellent help of others, including many fellow citizens across the country, I was able to provide the content that was in www.99oh9.org (That content is now at www.medicareforall.org) It was "99oh9" because I suggested in the first half of 2007 that we could achieve a single-payer law by 9/9/2009. The response was not significant enough over the past two years to accomplish that objective.
HOW LONG DO WE WAIT BEFORE WE EDUCATE?
In a room full of 100 activists in 2007 another activist reacted publicly to my 9-9-09 suggestion ... that this issue is a long-term effort, that it will take years.
Rep. Dennis Kucinich has also been stating publicly that this is a long term effort.
Ok ... how long is long? ... when do we set a goal and get this done? How many people have to die before we educate Americans and ask the interested ones to help?
Consider the plan for the U.S. to transition to the metric system over ten years. --- The U.S. never went to the metric system. The milk in my refrigerator is labeled: ONE GALLON (1.89L). What a slap in the face to the efficiency of the entire globally-interdependent world to deal with such insanity as the U.S. being different than everyone else with other countries making products for our country.
The President of the United States on 9-9-09 (this evening) communicated that the U.S. is unique. However, he failed us horribly by not telling us how we are unique: the only free-market country in the world that has for-profit health insurance and the only country in the world that does not have national health insurance of some kind, such as the best, simplest kind: single-payer.
CRISIS CONFIRMED IN 2009
I beg Rep. Dennis Kucinich and that other person, the one who also thinks the single-payer movement will take years, now to re-consider their expectation that this is a long-term effort. The U.S. Congress and the U.S. President are about to maintain and expand the bureaucracy instead of shrinking it. This is truly a nightmare for those of us who know the facts. We have run out of time to do things at a slow, gradual pace. We must move. We must move now. We must move efficiently and effectively.
Some Citizens Have Given Up. --- Now we literally have a crisis on our hands. One of our most dedicated activists publicly quit in early 2009. Reason: "I don't have enough hope and strength to continue my advocacy ...". Yesterday one of the Medicare for All participants quit with this note of explanation: "Lost hope".
Tonight President Obama started his health care speech to the U.S. Congress and the nation by listing problems that can be best solved with single-payer. Throughout the speech he mentioned additional topics that can be best solved with single-payer.
SOME DOCTORS SUGGEST SOME FOCUS
Today was the first scheduled event of "Mad As Hell Doctors", a caravan from Oregon to D.C. They suggest that: single-payer needs to be the only focus; that any other legislation, even if it has a strong public option, is not acceptable; and that this is not a time to compromise. It is, instead, a time to take a stand.
I agree with that group of doctors, who are taking a whole lot of their time, money and effort to get publicity for single-payer.
WILL OUR EFFORTS AFTER 9-9-09 BE MORE OF A WASTE OF TIME OR SOME DRAMATIC PROGRESS?
Especially considering that the White House (President Obama) has rejected their request for a meeting, their time, money and effort will be totally wasted. Why? Because the health insurance companies and pharmaceutical companies and their friends have been spending at least $1.4 million dollars a day, on average. Whenever they do that, they typically get a change of the American opinion to 70-80% against single-payer.
CAN WE TURN THE SITUATION AROUND TO BE IN OUR FAVOR?
Yes! Of course we can! But it requires a mission, a vision, a strategy, a goal and a plan. (more on that later).
IS SUCCESS POSSIBLE? YES!
But we must have something that ALL of us do that is clearly defined. Here is a suggested 5-step set of actions.
http://www.medicareforall.org/pages/helpgetcare
The immense power of the health insurance companies can be overcome with the overwhelming force of thousands of educated constituents communicating to each of the U.S. Representatives, who love to report to the press that very strong input was received from their constituents on a topic and that they responded positively to the input.
A MILLION CITIZENS: MORE POWER THAN LOBBYISTS
In closing I need to repeat two words from above: "educated constituents".
We need to get the million citizens by first educating however many it takes to get a million to join at www.medicareforall.org. Then we can label 9-9-09 as the start of success.
And I need to stress being positive, not negative. Honey, not vinegar. Helping citizens prepare for change, not continue to fear change.
If you don't tell 10 or more people what the subject is and how it will benefit them, then who will?
- Bob for all those who are working to help the 5-step "Help Get Care" activity be successful in getting over 2,299 participants in every one of the 435 U.S. Congressional Districts
