We did not get improved Medicare for All by the target date of the Nine-Nine-Oh-Nine! (9/9/09) campaign ... and ... we don't have it today ... 11/11/11.

But ... definite progress in campaign preparations has been made, as noted below at "Bright Spots!".

And ... our strong commitment remains. Those of us who have worked and are working on the content of this website and the Million Letters for Health Care Campaign know that we can and will get improved Medicare for All. We will accomplish our mission and realize our vision.

Therefore ... I'll mention just few of the results of the excellent efficiency. The cost will drop dramatically. The unnecessary hardships will no longer occur. We'll halt the unnecessary deaths under age 75 (due to preventable causes) continue. And we will SAVE OUR MOTHERS: stop the unnecessary deaths due to our very poor maternal mortality. Our health care for all system will be the most efficient, the best in the world.

We will have peace of mind, as indicated at that Peace of Mind web page and by the testimonials of Americans who live and work in other free-market countries.

Bright spots!

There are some bright spots.
— 67% of 255,213 Americans within one state (MA) voted "yes" for single payer at the ballot box in a non-binding resolution. Why is there such strong support in the state of Massachusetts? Follow the links about the Massachusetts law and about the citizens hatred of that law, which was the model for the creation of the Affordable Care Act of 2010. In parallel with the hatred for the current law Massachusetts citizens have been informing their fellow citizens of single payer, improved Medicare for All.
— As indicated by the above Massachusetts' 67% support ... and as indicated by the continued efforts of single-payer activists in single-payer organizations across the United States ... the awareness among Americans is very gradually increasing.

— The preparations continue for a more dramatic rate of increase in informed Americans. Definite progress in campaign preparations has been made. We continue to make progress related to this website and our preparations for the associated education and communications campaign called Million Letters for Health Care ... one of the biggest citizen actions that will ever be seen in the United States. Progress has been made both visibly and behind-the-scenes. That progress continues with much team-work and dedication among part-time volunteers.

The website content and resources continues to be refined and expanded. Additional promotional products continue to be established ... and will include clothing products for women as well as men. The 10-inch x 3-inch Medicare for All magnet is just one example of one of the great promotional products that has been made available to date.

Yesterday many communications occurred about U.S. Senate bill S.915 by Senator Bernie Sanders, which is not an equivalent of H.R. 676.

It is important to know that his bill and the corresponding bill in the U.S. House have no relationship to H.R. 676, the bill which would establish Improved Medicare for All via single-payer health Care.

(and possibly 6)

Challenge. Since no U.S. Senator actively supports and promotes and educates Americans regarding Improved Medicare for All via single-payer health care ... with ONE plan and ONE payer ... and the handful are waiting for some demonstration that there is more "political will", it has taken much time and research to identify the handful of supporters.

Good News About 5. The good news is that we now have the highest number of supporters ever recorded in the Senate section of the single-payer movement's Support Monitor.

We need to confirm the 6th. Note: we will check with Senator Bernie Sanders to confirm that he would vote for a one plan and one payer health-care-for-all system.

How to Get 67 to Establish the Political Will. To help get the necessary 67 U.S. Senators who will be needed to help ensure that the best law is developed for the best health-care-for-all system, Americans can join the Million Letters for Health Care Campaign.

1/11/11 to 11/11/11: 10 months of 2011

By 11/11/11 we will be
on quite a "roll" of progress.
It will take some months to start-up one of the biggest citizen actions ever seen in the United States.

Our special investigation team completed its section-by-section analysis of the Affordable Care Act of 2010. The results confirmed what we expected. See the report.

We are going to add even more testimonials between now and 11/11/11. We are adding the testimonials of citizens of other countries, such as the 12/29/2010 testimonial of an Australian asks a simple question of all Americans: Can you do (this) in the States: receive exceptional, extensive care and walk away "not paying one cent"?

But most of all what we're going to do between now and 11/11/11 is to finish the required foundation to launch a robust promotion of the letters campaign.

It's time for the United States to implement a health-care-for-all system. All other free-market countries implemented theirs between the 1880's and 1980's. Their timing gave us 100 years to implement ours, and we still don't have one.

We'll get the ball rolling during 2011 and into 2012. Then the incumbents and their challengers for the November 2012 election will know from the people that they need to not only support but also promote Improved Medicare for All.

Scary time: need simplicity

We hope that you have a Happy Halloween, but all Americans should be scared of what is coming regarding health care: sky-rocketing premiums and out-of-pocket costs plus higher taxes at all levels of government (to pay for expanded government plus the health care costs of employees) ... and school board taxes (to pay for the higher health care costs of employees there).

The final touches are being made on what will be the completion of a four-year development of the foundation of the Million Letters for Health Care campaign. The development started in the first quarter of 2007, and the final set of projects are scheduled to be completed during the first quarter of 2011. When those projects are completed, we will establish the organization of a set of contacts for each of the 435 U.S. Congressional Districts, after which we will promote the Million Letters for Health Care campaign. The four years of gradual preparation, followed by the establishment of the organization, is intended to be well prepared for the possibility of the promotional efforts causing a widespread and rapid activity of Americans informing each other about Improved Medicare for All with the solid information provided at this website.

The campaign will help accomplish the change to simplicity by helping get the support of the U.S. Congress.

We are forever grateful.

This is a campaign status blog, and here is part of the status ...

One of the continuous aspects of the status of this campaign is the set of contributions that have been made during the three years it's taken to get to this point. There's been help from a whole lot of Americans, including one who lives and works in Japan.

I will be forever grateful for those contributions. It's been quite a team effort.

Another one of the continuous aspects of the status is how I and others are motivated. There are so many reasons that a person could use to quit this cause. One thing that motivates is thoughts of all those hardships which literally never occur in other countries, because individual citizens don't go into medical debt, which is unheard of. They don't have medical bankruptcies, suicides and other varying degrees of horror. Another thing is the receipt of so many messages over time of appreciation of our work and encouragement to keep on going with the efforts.

We who have worked and contributed to this effort will be forever grateful for those contributions.

Announcements had been limited, because final preparations had been in progress for this truly grassroots campaign.

Obama Recommends Letters

There's a new web page available today that provides one video and four audios. They document the very strong and very clear request by citizens (including audience clapping multiple times) during the Presidential campaign at Barack Obama's own health care meeting that he initiated and conducted. The requests during the meeting were for non-profit single-payer national health insurance, which is simply called "single-payer," for which he very strongly supported in 2003.

President Obama's recommendation for action when he was campaigning for the U.S. Presidency at that time is very clear: send a couple of thousand letters to every U.S. Representative, which he referenced as every U.S. Congressional District.

Five Months Left

An original emphasis of this website was the date 9/9/2009, which happens to be significant now due to what is occurring in Washington DC. Now it's 4/9/2009, so there are 5 months left ...

Members of the U.S. House, U.S. Senate and the White House Office of Health Reform are focusing on getting national legislation prepared for a new health care law by this summer or this fall. This is a very scary time for Americans who know the facts.

A good place for any American to start is to participate in the Million Letters for Health Care Campaign by going to www.medicareforall.org.

In the meantime people in other countries will continue to be amazed. They ask Americans why we continue to deny ourselves the advantages of non-profit national health insurance:

● All necessary care.
● Everyone included, pre-natal to the end-of-life.
● Dramatically less bureaucracy = lower cost.
● No more rationing based on ability to pay.
● Freedom to choose doctors, medical facilities, professions, jobs, and employers.
● Physician impact: lower costs to run private practices; more time for patients.
● Lower business costs = recovery & creation of jobs.
● A healthier workforce. Our life expectancy is 30th in the world; we rank 19th of 19 countries in minimizing deaths due to preventable diseases! When people can get to a doctor, we'll do better!

Based on the enthusiasm and excitement expressed so far it looks like the Million Letters for Health Care Campaign will be one of the biggest grassroots activities that the United States has ever seen.

The first official month of the campaign is April, during which time I and others will be notifying many more Americans about this opportunity to do the following 10 Minutes-a-Month Activity:

1 letter in the U.S. Mail to 1 person (U.S. Representative) 1 time per month after getting 1 reminder on the 1st of the month.

We need to work in our districts to get 2,299 in each district to sign up for the campaign by Getting Monthly Reminders.

The 2,299 participants in each of the 435 U.S. Congressional Districts equals a total of 1 million people.

Get Ready, Get Set ...

Status of Education -- it will happen naturally.

For a long time I thought the need was to educate as many Americans as possible FIRST ... and THEN get those Americans to write letters to their U.S. Representatives.

We've run out of time for that kind of ideal focus. [Although we DO need to try to have answers to questions and know which website is going to have those answers.]

As a brand new activist in Missouri observed to me this week in an e-mail, "... education is great, and will happen naturally (and by always having your great handouts with us!) when we're out talking to people to get names." (The handouts are being developed.)

Status of Contacting Affected Americans -- it must happen now.

Mentally prepare to get your track shoes on. (Get Ready, Get Set ...)

We must move very fast to contact the people who are most affected, which is not the "rich" (those comfortable with their situation, that is) and not the poor. It's the uninsured, the under-insured, the individuals whose costs are skyrocketing the most, the small businesses who hire those individuals and cannot afford to provide benefits. It's the couple in Massachusetts who implemented mandated health insurance and are faced now with a $7,000 per year premium and a $42,000 per year income!

"While the employee of a regional electric utility is complaining about monthly payroll deductions for his family that now exceed $500 or more on a $60,000 annual salary, the longtime employee of a local small electrician is looking at monthly payroll deductions for his family of $1,500 on a $35,000 annual salary. His apprentice is younger, and so is "fortunate" to have monthly deductions for his family of only $900 on a $20,000 annual salary. The electrician's helper making $9/hr can't afford even his half of the premium for just himself." --- as written by a health insurance agent

That same insurance agent wrote: "It is all of these folks (and there are tens of millions of them), coupled with those who have already been priced out of the market altogether, who will fuel the fire for radical reform."

But, unless we get our track shoes on, we will never contact those people who are suffering the most. Unless we find a handful, and then get referrals to other people, we will never reach them. Ask for their names, then contact them. Just this afternoon a friend called me. Before we finished the chat, I asked for and was given the name and information of an uninsured person in Michigan in another city.

So get mentally ready, because I will be ready to give you some "tools" to use on or before April 1, 2009.

It is now less than 2 months before the next session of the U.S. Congress.

I am more concerned than ever about what I wrote at my "4 months" posting at this blog. I have refined my thinking about the details, wrote up a description of the strategy, and shared it with activists from around the country.

Pardon the repetition of the posting of comments titled "4 months", but we must educate our fellow Americans. Education will be one of the main factors that contributes to our success.

We need to ask those educated Americans to get reminders and to follow the Schedule as part of each of them communicating to their U.S. Representative.

There are 4 months before the next two-year session of the United States Congress. I am still a possibility thinker when it comes to accomplishing non-profit single-payer national health insurance. No matter what happens in the next 4 months and during the next 12 months (by 9/9/2009) I believe that there is more required activity than just getting people aware and excited about the need for single-payer. We need to educate each other so that as many people as possible are prepared for the positive change to our society. I call it having enough knowledge to be focused on the goal, the vision, of the future. Another person calls it being immunized. No matter what words are used, we Americans need to have our minds solidly on the goal and not have our opinions sway in the breeze when we hear or see any campaign activity that involves anything besides the elimination of for-profit bureaucracy and government bureaucracy. We must achieve simplicity and efficiency so that we can do a significant accomplishment that will help recover businesses, jobs, health and the unnecessary loss of lives.

THE HEALTH CARE FOR ALL MOVEMENT to get U.S. single-payer national health insurance

Overall in the movement, many people are doing excellent efforts to educate citizens and to get them active in a variety of ways to support U.S. H.R. 676 legislation for single-payer national health insurance. National and state organizations are still active in their efforts.

Criteria for Measuring Progress --- The bottom-line of progress is

having a good current rate of increase in support by U.S. Representatives
having a good current rate of increase in support by U.S. Senators
having a supportive U.S. Presidential candidate
getting endorsements made by individual states.

Status --- As the year ended, little or no progress occurred across the four measurements during the fourth quarter of 2007.

U.S. Representatives: 2 more during the last 3 months -- we are now at 19%; we need 67% -- That rate would take us over 25 years to get single-payer. We cannot wait that long.
U.S. Senators: still zero -- no support
U.S. Presidential candidate front-runners -- no support
State resolutions -- 2 of 50 states: Kentucky and New Hampshire, passed resolutions supporting U.S. H.R. 676 in the first quarter of 2007.

December is one of the 4 months during the year when we write and send notes.

However, this first time period for sending notes goes through February 2008 since this activity is just getting started.

It's a great time to spread the word and get many participants.

A small handout is now available. It's size is convenient, consisting of a half-sheet of paper, double-sided. The impact on the environment and on our pocketbooks is minimized.

The impact of the handout is maximized due to its graphical image, which is persuasive.

The handout is available here, along with my description of my interaction with the other person when I present a copy of the handout to them.

Facelift

Our small Nine-Nine-Oh-Nine! team has made a key set of changes that I am calling a "Facelift." -- Bob

The Homepage Title is hereby "Health Care for All NOW." This title fits well with the fact that the web site can now be accessed by entering www.healthcareforallnow.org (or www.healthcareforallnow.com or www.99oh9.org).

The Homepage content is now more positive and is more focused on the primary reasons for the web site: U.S. citizens writing notes, spreading the word, using the Support Monitor, voting in the November 4, 2008 election and joining the campaign. The Table of Contents on the left of every web page was updated similarly.

Note-Writing is now the title of the activity rather than letter-writing due to a tip that I received from a fellow single-payer activist in mid-November at the annual national strategy meeting of the Healthcare-Now organization.

After all, the only thing that the U.S. Representatives and U.S. Senators need is a personally-composed note of short or medium length that states the input from the constituents (us!)

It is much more important that there be thousands of people in each U.S. Congressional District expressing themselves with a note than in worrying about the size of that note.

Read Our Notes! Watch Our Votes! and Our Notes and Our Votes is now seen in the web site pages due to the change to note-writing.

Candidates in U.S. Elections Who are Single-Payer Supporters can now be entered by me as soon as I learn the information about the candidate. That's a feature that the webmaster and I had been looking forward to providing.

As a challenger for a seat in the U.S. House and U.S. Senate announces their candidacy they can communicate their support ( at "Submit Support" ) by providing a reference on the internet where that support is publicly viewable.

I changed the note-writing schedule to a full month to write letters rather than focusing on only the 9th day of the month. The months are March, June, September and December. Send letters either on the 9th of the month or any day during the month.

I am now using the more conservative and more defensible quantity of "over half" to describe the number of Americans who support single-payer national health insurance. We made that change at the web site and added a chart and the associated details that clearly show the degree of support being over half.

We need to build an initial base of participants, who are each invited to write their note and send it to their U.S. Representative and U.S. Senators during December and January.

Loading of some remaining details will continue during September and into October. Examples include the loading of lists of local addresses. Also, I will obtain additional information on more of the single-payer supporters among U.S. Representatives and U.S. Senators so that they can be documented for the Single-Payer Support Monitor.

Good Health for All

Nine-Oh-Nine! is starting this month --- and today is exactly two years before 9-9-09! It's an opportunity to look forward to not only Health Care for All but also Good Health for All.

Here is a health challenge for you for the period of 9-7-09 to 9-9-09.

If you should lose weight and gain strength, then do it ...
with a medical professional's guidance.

When you read Dr. Bob LeBow's book Health Care Meltdown, you will see his view that Health Care for All "is only the first step towards a larger goal: good health for all." See page 250.

In the spirit of good health I am committed to getting back to a good body weight and a good level of strength.

I encourage you to make a similar commitment: with a medical professional's guidance, please get to a good weight and good level of strength for optimal health, if you recognize a need in either one of these areas. For myself I find that doing a minimum of 1.5 miles or 30 minutes, whichever comes first, is a good "bare minimum" amount of activity every day.

History of the Campaign

First Quarter 2007. After participating in the Health Care for All movement for three years, I conceived the Nine-Nine-Oh-Nine! Campaign for Single-Payer National Health Insurance in the first quarter of 2007 and started developing its content.

Second Quarter 2007. A volunteer web developer and I did design and construction of the associated web site during the second quarter of 2007 and contacted national single-payer organizations. I hand-delivered a request for single-payer support, on behalf of the Nine-Nine-Oh-Nine! campaign, to the Washington, D. C., offices of each U.S. Representative and each U.S. Senator in mid-June.

Third Quarter 2007. Now, during the third quarter the web developer is finishing technical details to be done by the end of the 3rd quarter. In parallel I am refining the content as a result of feedback from several people from around the country. We look forward to starting more communications about the campaign during the 4th quarter --- with an initial, small start of the massive letter-writing campaign on December 9.
